Review of Huawei Y9 Prime 2019

Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 was launched in June 2019 in Pakistan. Huawei has been a famous and most selling brand in Pakistan for mobile phones for some years. Its Y series is very popular in Pakistan as it is aimed at youth. Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 has created much hype due to its motorized pop up selfie camera and almost bezel less display in affordable price.

We used this phone and thought of sharing the overall impression and review of this phone after using it for 3 months. Below are the key specifications for Huawei Y9 Prime 2019:

Design & Looks:

Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is available in sapphire blue, midnight black and emerald green. Our unit is emerald green. The phones looks beautiful and the color looks pleasing to eyes. On the back side, there is shading pattern that seems attractive. The phone is made with plastic but its a good quality plastic. However you still have to protect it with some cover. A silicon TPU cover was also included in the box.

Display of Y9 Prime 2019:

The first thing I noticed when I hold this phone in my hand is the impression that the display looks wonderful. Its a 6.59 large bezel less display. If you are someone who is annoyed by notch then you would be extremely satisfied with this phone's screen design as it is notchless. The large display has a resolution of 1080p with 391 PPI. The screen quality is very good for the price point although its not on par with Samsung's AMOLED display. However, its quality is still very fine for a regular and normal user. The viewing angles are good, the brightness is fine.

Performance:

Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is powered by HiSilicon Kirin 710F. The chipset is a very little bit improved version of Kirin 710 which is used in many Huawei phones this year like Nova 3i, Honor 8X. The Kirin 710F is an efficient processor that gives really good performance. The chipset handles day to day and routine tasks very swiftly with no lags. Its coupled with 4 GB RAM. Memory management is also good on this phone but it is not perfect. Sometimes applications are refreshed very soon. The OS kills the applications to save battery But you can solve this issue by changing the phone to Performance Mode in the settings. By default it is in balanced mode.

It has Mali GPU. The GPU is not meant for very high graphics games. But dont get these words wrong. The processor handles games like 8 Ball pool, PUB-G really good. But for PUB-G you should keep graphics to medium.

Camera:

Y9 Prime 2019's marketing and advertisements focused on its pop-up Selfie camera. Although its not the first phone to have this in Pakistan. Oppo and Vivo has already introduced this feature in Pakistan. But Y9 Prime 2019 is the first phone which is not very expensive, to have this cool feature. Its a show off feature for the youth. Comes to its camera quality, the 16 MP shooter is great for day-light situations. The quality is great in auto mode stills. Huawei has also included many modes to make photography a fun like AI mode, Potrait shots and AR stickers. However I was not impressed with its selfie potrait and AI mode. Although the AR stickers and features are cool and fun to use.

Coming to the back camera of Y9 Prime, it has triple camera setup. A 16 MP main shooter with f1.8 aperture. a 8 MP wide angle camera and a 2 MP depth sensor camera. There are many modes like potrait, aperture mode, AI and AR features. The normal photos are quite good in day-light and outdoor situations. Even its equally good in well-lit situations indoor. Photos looks pleasing to eyes are colors comes out very good. Colors do not get over saturate like some of other Huawei phones. So its an improvement here. But in low light the camera does not impress. Photos are smooth and upon zoom you can see grains. But in this price segment its acceptable.

Potrait and Aperture mode photos are impressive too. The blur effect looks pleasing and natural and you can play with it later on from the gallery which is a fun thing. The AI mode enhances the photos a little bit.

Battery:

Y9 Prime 2019 holds a 4000 mAh battery capacity which is quite good for this phone. As the phone packs an efficient processor, the battery is capable of giving you a full day with a quite heavy useage. The battery charges in 2 hours which is normal.

Verdict of Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 Review:

Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is a good value for money in terms of camera, style and battery. We will give it 8/10 score.
