Relation Between Machine Learning, AI and Data Science

Machine Learning, AI & Data Science:

In modern era, terms like AI (Aritifical Intelligence), Data Science and Machine Learning are trending. Everyone discusses about them but many does not completely gets them. They appear to be mind boggling to a layman and people frequently get confused by words like AI, ML and Data science because they get mixed with each other and it becomes difficult to differentiate between them.
In this article, we clarify and elaborate these terms in easy words that you can easily understand and differentiate between AI, Machine Learning & Data Science.

Artificial Intelligence (AI):

AI refers to making such machines which stimulate human brain. It means to build machines that are intelligent and can act or behave like human beings. This is accomplished by creating an artificial neural network that can depict human intelligence. The human functions that an AI machine performs include logical reasoning,  self- learning and decision making. AI is classified into two parts, General AI and Narrow AI.  General AI refers to perform general and multiple activities and Narrow AI refers to perform specific tasks. For example, General AI would mean that an algorithm is designed to be able to play all kind of board games while narrow AI means to design an algorithm which can play specific game like chess.

Machine Learning (ML):

Machine learning refers to enable the machines to perform self learning through their environment or on the basis of their past experience without any explicit programming. Hence, ML is a subset or a part of AI because by making machines to do self learn heads towards intelligent machines. That can take decisions and can perform intelligent tasks.

Data Science:

Data science is an emerging field which integrates the above mentioned fields and also from other fields like statistics, mathematics, data engineering and data visualization.
Data Science refers to deeply analyze data and extract useful insights from that data. Predictions can be concluded from that data with the help of some machine learning algorithms. Weather forecasts, diagnosing diseases, fraud detection, targeted advertisements, speech and image recognition are some of the applications of data science.
